Connect the fans to the two connectors coming off the pump (figure 2).Connect the pump power cable to the CPU_FAN header on your motherboard (figure 1). You can select the speed of the dual SP120L PWM fans via the Corsair Link control panel or any standard fan speed utility.Tighten the thumbscrews until all four corners are firmly secured.Align the bracket and pump over the standoff screws as shown. Install the assembled backplate (figure 2).For LGA 1366 installation, slide the backplate pins outside (figure 1).The H60 doesnt come with a second fan for push/pull or have the built-in fan controller, but the. For LGA 115X installation, slide the backplate pins inside (figure 1). The H60 may not be the coolest kid on the block, but it is a good, cheaper alternative to the H80.That might take a couple weeks to flesh out. "Try and see" seems like the smart move and the greatest reduction in CPU temp usually comes from manually tuning the BIOS power and voltage parameters and not a cooling upgrade. Flight Sim games tend to be more CPU taxing, but I would not expect it to be worse than that. While the new 12900K is capable of pulling a lot of watts, that does not mean that is what your typical load will be.

I think the 11700K gives you a good idea of what to expect. I made the Hydro H60 even quieter by replacing the stock 120mm Corsair fan with the 120mm Noctua NF-P12 fan. Although the Hydro H60 radiator fan isn't super quiet at max speed, it was still much quieter than the stock HSF. The LCD display can be purchased as an add on if wanted and it works out the same for cost. Besides HUGE temperature improvements, I also experienced great acoustic improvements. If you decide to pick up a new 280mm, the standard H115i Elite 280mm is the same unit without the LCD top and a much lower price as a result. There were some minor tweaks to the cooling block on the Elite series vs the Platinum, but that is not something a user would be likely to notice outside a test bench. If I see throttling, then it's up to the 280 for a 2-4 ☌ improvement. Well in the first instance over the coming weeks I will try my existing H100i RGB PLATINUM SE with a pea dot of Thermal grizzly kryonaut and see what.

really?! it's the same 240 rad I already have! I don't see this as a solution from what I already have, unless I'm missing something. Scan (computer dealer) in the UK suggested I try the brand new H100i ELITE LCD Display Liquid CPU Cooler, which would be "excellent" on the 12900K. There were some minor tweaks to the cooling block on the Elite series vs the Platinum, but that is not something a user would be likely to notice outside a test bench.

The variation of 2-4 ☌ between 240 and 280 is interesting (thanks for this), I will take your advise and peruse a potential upgrade into a second hand H115i 280 to see how that makes a difference, failing that a 360 is out of the question due to case limitations. I did a 24 hour Prime95 on this with no errors. That's using the default balanced profile. My current H100i RGB PLATINUM SE is sat on an 1.4v overclocked i7-11700K which is a volcano of heat and the 240 manages to control 100☌ spikes down to around 85☌ in Cyberpunk and 3DMark CPU, Cinebench R23 etc. Overall the PC is used for VR flight sim and general high end gaming, not rendering or video processing.

I will probably run a small voltage overclock / XMP 3.0 on the 12900K and RAM using the UEFI AItweaker but nothing manual and pressing. I do consider a 280mm to be a worthwhile upgrade, but mostly in terms of fan sound/noise and daily use. Most people won't be running their brand new processor right on the edge of usability. So for that 2-4C to matter, you need to be within 2-4C of your CPU temp limit. The difference in coolant temp between a 240 and 280 at moderate fan speeds might be a couple of degrees. Also, while there is a not a lot of data out yet, every CPU there is will be voltage/temperature limited and not cooler constrained. There isn't a ton of cooling difference between a 280 and 240, but the 280 does allow you run easier fan speeds for about the same coolant differential. If your intent is to manually overclock and then run folding 24/7, then a 240mm radiator likely won't be enough.
